This week saw the birthdays of my Dad and my Father-in-law (2 separate people before you think my family tree is that weird!). Both have their hobbies so I decided to create cards that would appeal to them.
My Dad is a keen golfer so I used the recently retired Clubhouse set to create this personalised golfing card. I love how the golf ball die adds the dimples to the ball – so clever!
My Father-in-Law lives by the seaside and we always go for a walk on the beach or the cliffs. My husband challenged me to make a coastal card – I think I’ve managed it using blends and the Sailing Home stamp set and dies.
I really love how the Stitched Rectangle cut out has made the frame for the ‘sea’ in this card. I used the Blending brushes on both the outside of the card and a separate insert piece to add different tones. the outside is Gray Granite to echo the lighthouse rocks ,whilst inside I’ve used Bermuda Bay and Pool Party for the sea.
Happy Birthday Dads!

After making a couple of simple cards using the Welcoming Window Stamp Set and Die bundle, I wanted to take a closer look at the dies. I’m so glad I did as this set makes the most stunning creations with very little stamping!
The shutters dies emboss and cut in one pass, leaving the wood grain effect on your card at the same time as it trims. Add in the brackets and you’ve a pair of ornate cottage windows in two passes through your die cutting machine.
Adding a few dimensionals brings this to life, the flowerpots and window dressings really pop out. I love how this card feels like it could be a real window into a card (maybe I’ll try that next!).
I added a hint of daffodil delight to the flowers with a blend, and then used Wink of Stella to add a bit of sheen to the windows and plant pots.
I’m really pleased with how this turned out. It was very simple to make and construct, but looks fabulous!
In amongst the dies are a jug, various plant pots and matching flower dies, which could be userd to easily create a full cottage garden. Add in a small cat or dog, welly boots and you could be anywhere in the countryside.
I think this is the perfect set for spring birthday cards and know I will be using it for years to come!
